Brenda Shedaker Brasure grew up on a farm near Laurel and loved the art classes she took in school. At college she declared Art as one of her majors, but the business of life got in the way and it wasn't until after 2003 that she discovered weaving. Upon retiring, her trips to Florida gave her a chance to weave using natural materials; seagrass, pine needles, iris leaves, willows, and reed. She joined the Nature Coast Basket Makers Guild, the West Virginia Basketmakers Association, The North Carolina Basket Makers Association, and the Nanticoke River Arts Council. These memberships provided opportunity to share ideas and learn new techniques. Nowadays Mrs Brasure sells her creations at local events, and teaches her craft from her home in Bridgeville.
